Possible presence of «flour moths» in some herbal teas

In a rare and exceptional manner, some among you could have found in our herbal teas or Rooibos, the indelicate presence either of a start of ‘butterfly’s web’, either some ‘small worms’ or even a ‘grey butterfly’ flying away at the opening of your ‘tea package’.

Our reaction in front if this kind of discovery is generally very uncomfortable and our thoughts are to think that the contaminated product is of ‘bad quality’.
In fact, the presence of this parasites, although unpleasant, is the consequence of a high quality of the products.

Indeed, they are, in any case, ‘flour moths’.
‘Flour moths’ are parasites that we can find in many food, more especially in cereals, flour or dried fruits or some plants when this same ingredients are not treated with pesticides...
Our products being from, in priority, the biological agriculture or from the non-intensive agriculture without treatment, for quality reasons, are then sensitive to this kind of contamination.

First of all, it is important to know that ‘Flour moth’ presents NO danger for health, even if you happen to ingest it without knowing it.
Like you, they love the good food and when you can see them (identifying either of a start of ‘butterfly’s web’, either some ‘small worms’ or even a ‘grey butterfly’ flying away) it is that they are at a development stage or of evolution of their end of live cycle.

It is almost impossible for us to identify them during the reception of our raw materials from the origins, or after, during the production or the packing. Indeed, at the stage of the ‘egg’ they are totally invisible to the eye.
Only a few plants are concerned and more especially the Rooibos, coming from South Africa or some dried fruits like dried grapes...
That’s why, it is often that we can find them in our ‘Herbal tea blends’ and not in our teas, composed with a little bit of Rooibos...

The ‘eggs’ or larva systematically come up to the surface, that’s why you discover them at the opening of your tea package. In the majority of cases, the rest of 99% of the content is not contaminated, even if we have the reflex to throw everything away.

Of course, even if for us and for you, it’s very unpleasant when you warn us of the discovery of this parasite, always putting forward the quality instead at the appearance, we prefer to continue to source our products in biological or organic way rather than chemical one.
We’re absolutely sorry of this rare but potentials meeting with this ‘small monsters’ and we assure you of our sincere apologies, even if we can absolutely not do anything.

We hope that you will understand perfectly the situation as well as our choices and we thank you for your trust and support in our approach.
